The Opportunity

The purpose of the Digital Marketing Specialist role is to help Arup to understand our audiences better through insights across web and social and to drive brand awareness and conversion through email marketing tactics. The role will also support other digital marketing activities that are owned by the digital comms team.  

This role will sit within the Digital Marketing team, part of the broader Marketing team within MCBD (Marketing, communications & Business Development). The digital comms team exists to drive digital excellence across social, content marketing, web marketing, email marketing and communications by providing strategic advice, best practice, research, training, testing and learning, and measurement for data-based decision making.

Areas of ownership for the team include: Digital customer journey mapping; content strategy; social media (organic), social media (paid), social influencers; social advocacy; social listening; written content development (including external copywriters); UX/web page design/editing; SEO and searcher intent research, AEO/GEO, web PPC, data analysis, email marketing and video content development/storyboarding.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as a PowerUser for the email automation platform (Marketo), building and undertaking final checks on email marketing campaigns and event invites, while ensuring they are effectively integrated with CRM systems and aligned with firm-wide marketing goals. 
  • Analyse the performance of web content, social content, and email marketing campaigns, build reports to drive continuous improvement, and complete data hygiene projects – when necessary.  
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of integrated, multi-channel campaigns (email, web, events, social channels, etc.) that support the digital customer journey and enhance the overall client experience.   
  • Use SEMRush to build and apply insights for search engine optimisation (SEO), as well as to analyse searcher intent to inform our activities and campaigns. Training will be provided for this part of the role.   
  • Undertake research to build insights for the optimisation of our website for AI search traffic (AEO/GEO). Training will be provided for this part of the role. 
  • Complete desktop research and build social media reports into what our customers and potential customers are sharing and discussing on LinkedIn.  
  • Ensure compliance with global data protection and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR), and champion best practices in data governance. 
  • Support with wider digital marketing activities, such as organic social, paid social and web page building on our CMS.

Is this role right for you?

This role is well suited for anyone who has an interest in digital marketing with a focus on developing their email, web and social marketing skills. An analytical mindset is ideal and digital marketing analysis and email marketing experience is favoured.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable improvements. 
  • Strong skills in written communication, copywriting and copyediting, as well as a keen eye for detail. 
  • An evidenced interest in digital marketing, including data analytics and research.  
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple ongoing activities. 
  • A highly collaborative working style across the wider MCBD community. 
  • Creative curiosity and demonstrable interest in best practice digital marketing and communications techniques. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
  • A professional qualification in a relevant field such as Marketing, Communications, Digital Marketing, Business, English, etc.
  • Commitment to exemplifying Arup’s aims, particularly those of being a ‘humane organisation,’ maintaining ‘quality of work’, and ‘straight and honourable dealings’.

  • A keen interest in sustainable development and the built environment. 
  • Proven experience with Marketo or a similar email marketing software and a strong understanding of how they integrate with CRM systems. 
  • Knowledge of global data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) 
  • A proactive approach to learning and innovation, with a keen interest in emerging marketing technologies and trends.
