Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We have a unique and exciting opportunity to join our Water team in Sydney as a Development Engineer (Civil).
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

The Opportunity

  • You’ll work with the Growth & Development teams for water utilities across NSW helping facilitate design reviews and/or Building Planning Applications on behalf of our clients. You will be requested to review civil engineering aspects of the project and assess the risk to our clients from each development application.
  • You’ll be accountable for design reviews for significant and complex projects which will require you to be responsible for predicting and planning future resources to allow reviews to be undertaken within a reasonable timeframe.
  • You will represent Arup and our clients at internal and external meetings and take a long-term strategic view of growth areas across NSW and where our clients may need additional support in meeting the need for growth in their area while protecting their own interests and assets.
  • You may be responsible for the performance and development of others.  This would require you to provide guidance, training, motivation and direction to staff.
  • You will be responsible for influencing our clients to make sure their systems and processes in relation to the review of development applications remains best practice and incorporates any required innovation.

Is this role right for you?

  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering or similar area.
  • Relevant industry experience in the water industry within a consulting business environment.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership.
  • Ideally meeting at least, a C3 competency level within Sydney Water’s Engineering Competency Guideline.
  • Familiarity/knowledge of WSAA Codes, Building Over Asset Guidelines and Specialist Engineering Assessment Guidelines are an advantage.
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines – and Arup’s related procedures including OH&S.
