The Opportunity

Arup’s Foresight team delivers thought leadership, insights, strategy, and innovation on the future of the built environment. Situated within the wider Arup University group we help Arup and our clients deliver excellence by engaging people in strategic conversations about change. We are a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, engineers, architects and designers that help our clients understand change, identify emerging opportunities, and future-proof their business. From envisioning the future of mail and parcel logistics to researching the future design and operations of a city district, we answer complex questions that require a broad and holistic look at the future.  

Our designers play an integral role in researching and delivering foresight products and services for our internal and external clients. The position of a designer will be multifaceted; it will range from design research, prototyping physical and digital concepts, visualising and testing ideas, film, interaction and exhibition work all using design tools and foresight methodologies to critically engage with ideas about the future. Amongst this wider range of competencies the core expectation for this designer is to be the go-to person in the team for graphic and report design. Additional to this, our ideal candidate would be an open-minded designer, an agile and enthusiastic thinker who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. We are looking for someone who is passionate about their job and understands Arup’s commitment to sustainable development.

Is The Role Right For You?

We are interested in speaking to people have the following:

  • Qualification in a design or related field.
  • Excellent graphic and visual storytelling skills supported by a strong portfolio of work and an Interest in design futures.
  • Ability to self-organise resources and time to meet project deadlines and deliverables with a proven track record of producing high-quality projects which involve research and design thinking.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and Premier Pro coupled with Film making and animation skills with an understanding of UI/UX design principles.
  • Physical prototyping and making skills.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary environment.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate creative flair, be an enthusiastic team member and have strong visual design skills, with the ability to work on several projects at once.
