The Opportunity

Your role in our team

  • Reports to the QS, Project Planning and Cost Estimation Team Leader
  • Assist on preparation of internal and external projects at pre/post stages to produce cost estimate, validate any costs or quantities based on available information. Update the costs and quantities upon arrival of new sets of documents.
  • Assist for the development and update of cost databases for various types of infrastructure and buildings related projects.
  • Request quotation from material & equipment suppliers, review their proposals for accuracy of pricing and compliance to the specifications, plans & requirements of the Client.
  • Perform quantity take-off of materials, labor & equipment and prepare estimates in compliance with the bid documents.
  • Knowledgeable in preparing Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), with a strong understanding of its concepts and principles, ensuring alignment with project requirements and execution plans.
  • Able to prepare project cost estimate (CAPEX/OPEX) that are valuated from internal databases of previous & current similar projects
  • Work with unit price analysis by identifying the normal work output and unit rates of labor, tools & consumables, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Attend meetings and recommend value engineering advice to the design team for improving cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate bids for financial scope and review fairness of bid quantities and unit price offers and perform reconciliation / bid clarificatory with bidders.
  • Verification/ certify monthly interim valuation with negotiation and settlements of cost/quantity disputes. Conduct site inspections to do valuations of the contract works includes recording of Invoices.
  • Preparation of cost evaluation reports identifying findings that have significant impacts on the project cost or bill of quantities and provide recommendations.
  • Monitor and update disbursement plans both internal and external contract
  • Able to Prepare, Review, Check, validate and/or recommend Project Progress Reports such as daily, weekly and monthly report of Contractor
  • Review, Check and recommend Variation Claims
  • Prepare Correspondences based on Current Site Issues and concerns
  • Maintain Record related to Claims and related issues
  • Monitor project site data/report such as manpower, equipment, procurement, etc.
  • Works within the QS and Planning Team to compare costs to support Project Managers and Project Directors in discussing with Clients CAPEX/OPEX of their projects.
  • Regular contact with Arup project managers to assess and review the project costs and project bill of quantities.
  • Regular liaison outside the firm with technical specialists, clients, and architects in connection with project cost.
  • Regular coordination with Site team and Construction Manager

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or related field with knowledge in construction methods and practices.
  • Unit Price Analysis (labour, materials & equipment) experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar role in Cost Engineering, Quantity surveying or Construction related industry experience preferred. 
  • Commercially astute and strong attention to details is highly regarded
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with proven ability to influence at different levels of organization 
  • Preferably knowledgeable in cost estimating MEICA Scope (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control and Automation) apart of Civil work scope
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills with strong control mindset
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of MS office suite, CAD and Bluebeam; with advanced Excel
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges
