The Opportunity


The Materials team is a group of dynamic individuals who are leaders in their field and are world renowned in their specialist area from stone, concrete, metal, glass to nano-materials, sustainable materials and composites. Not only do we assist in the selection of materials, but we strive to push the boundaries to develop material and use them in new and innovative ways. The Materials team constitutes an integral part of the Specialist Technology, Analytics and Research group in Arup, offering specialist advice for the firm globally.

Our team’s vision is of partnering with our clients to optimise and improve their business performance by offering predictive and optimised life cycle management for the concrete stock of buildings and infrastructure.

The role will see you:

  • Providing concrete materials and technology advice to both internal and external clients, globally including concrete technology, concrete durability low carbon concrete strategies. 
  • Problem investigation, specification writing and review.
  • Being actively engaged on research projects.

     

Your involvement will vary from a brief phone conversation to being an integral part of the project team and may require occasional overseas travel. You will be exposed to a variety of projects, applications and construction types.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A degree level education in a relevant subject, such as civil, structural or materials engineering.
  • Knowledge of concrete technology and relevant standards together with a demonstrable interest in concrete construction and desire to specialize further in this area.
  • Knowledge and experience on concrete durability and deterioration mechanisms and corresponding service life modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge in the field of low carbon concrete, traditional and alternative cementitious materials.
  • Good report writing and presentational skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, e.g. site visits.
