Civil Engineer - Water

This role is to deliver civil engineering design services for water/wastewater infrastructure within Arup’s water team. In the first instance, this position will help deliver these services across a range of interesting and engaging projects being delivered for Sydney Water. Our projects currently cover most phases of the project lifecycle (e.g. planning, design development and detailed design). Outside of Sydney Water, there will also be the opportunity to be involved in projects across Australia with large water teams also based in Queensland and Victoria and a growing presence in Western Australia. For many of our design projects, we collaborate with partners, specialists and contractors, therefore this role will need to work as part of a partnership environment, working directly and collaborating with our partners and clients directly.
The Opportunity
- Responsible for the performance and development of others through providing guidance, training, direction and feedback.
- Project manage small to medium sized projects, delegating and managing tasks of junior team members.
Facilitate collaboration effectively among diverse project teams and disciplines, establishing robust communication channels and workflows. - Coordinate project activities to ensure alignment with project objectives and actively address conflicts and challenges arising from multidisciplinary interactions. Monitor project progress and interdependencies with attention to detail, providing technical guidance and promoting knowledge sharing among teams.
- Be involved in the provision of design management for projects, showcasing expertise in design coordination. Collaborate closely with design teams to define comprehensive project goals and objectives.
- Develop detailed design management plans, advanced schedules, and budgets. Take ownership of monitoring design progress and conducting comprehensive quality assurance. Ensure strict alignment of design with project vision and client requirements. Manage design coordination and communication among project stakeholders at an advanced level. Implement innovative design strategies for fostering creativity and excellence.

Is this role right for you?
- Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering or similar area;
- Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies and working toward chartership (if not yet secured);
- Relevant civil engineering experience delivering concept and detailed designs across the water sector within a consulting business environment;
- Achieve at least C1 and preferably some C2 competency status within Sydney Water’s Competency Requirements
- Ability to tackle challenges strategically, identifying root causes and exploring innovative solutions with a critical mindset.
- Ability to build positive relationships by understanding needs and delivering value-added solutions, acting as a trusted partner.
- Ability to take ownership of development, demonstrating self-awareness and professionalism while striving for improvement.
- Demonstratable commitment to uphold ethics and honesty in all interactions, earning trust through transparent actions and maintaining the highest integrity.
- Experience with internal and external stakeholder management.
