We are looking for a Rail Engineer to play a key role on a variety of exciting infrastructure projects with a primary focus on railroad infrastructure and stations. You would be joining our multi-disciplinary team that supports both local and regional rail project work. We work on complex rail projects and help advise clients on how to best solve their most challenging issues. The preferred location is Chicago, but the role could sit in New York, Boston or DC.


The opportunity

  • Assisting senior staff on a variety of planning and design projects with a focus on railroad infrastructure and stations projects throughout the Americas Region, such as the renovation of key station in Chicago or massive rail expansion project in New York City.
  • Preparing and reviewing rail alignment, track and special trackwork drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working with senior engineers and project managers to help complete assigned tasks.
  • Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on design development and analyses.
  • Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support business development efforts to secure future work and build client relationships.
  • Participate in local and national engineering associations such as ASCE or AREMA

 

The skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering design. Railroad project experience preferred but not required.
  • EIT/FE required.
  • Experience with MicroStation.
  • Experience with Bentley Open Rail Designer or Autodesk Civil 3D preferred but not required.  
  • ORD or Civil 3D experience preferred but not required.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize work and manage deadlines required in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills essential for team-based working.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues of all levels.
  • Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understanding trends and best practices in the civil and rail industries in the Midwest and at a national level.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Chicago is $80,000 to $87,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Chicago will differ.
