Within our North sub-region we have a team of 100+ multi-disciplinary engineers working together on a wide variety of infrastructure projects.  

Arup have an established dams and reservoir business, with a broad range of clients, from major water utilities to private owners. Our business is growing and we have the opportunity to grow our specialist team to deliver projects ranging from specialist studies, investment or transaction advice, major remedial works, new assets through to discontinuance.

The Opportunity 

We are seeking civil engineers, located in either Glasgow or Edinburgh, to help deliver a diverse range of projects within our major client portfolios.  We are looking for people who are passionate about technical excellence and providing an outstanding service to our clients.

The ideal candidate will technically guide projects within our exciting and innovative, Energy Water and Resources engineering team. As a member of an established and growing team, you will support our dams and reservoir business, helping to build relationships with clients, deliver key packages of design work and mentor junior engineers and other specialists, supporting them with your skills.  You will have the opportunity to make a difference – to Arup, to your career, to our staff and to the clients and communities we serve. 

We are looking for a self motivated civil engineer with curiosity, personal drive, and technical know-how. We welcome all applicants from a Civil Engineering background with strong geotechnical, hydraulic and civil skills and experience in the design of water retaining structures. They will be passionate about a career in dams and reservoirs and have a drive to aim for Panel Engineer certification.   

Is this role right for you?  

We're looking for the following qualifications, attributes, and skills: 

  • MEng or MSc level qualification in Civil Engineering or related subject
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Civil Engineer or equivalent status.
  • Relevant skill in the technical design of civil infrastructure, ideally in some of geotechnics, hydraulic structures, dams, river engineering, water utilities, with a preference for experience in dam and reservoir projects.
  • Knowledge of the application of Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • A proven ability to work in teams, to multi-task and to work to deadlines.

Desirable

  • Working towards, or certified as a Supervising Engineer under the Reservoirs Act, 1975, or the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act, 2011.
  • Competence in review of drawings and interrogation of 3D Modelling of civil engineering projects, using industry-recognized software system e.g. Civil 3D, Revit or equivalent.
  • Interest in managing and working with large and complex data sets and utilising digital design tools and coding to manipulate and use the data in creative and efficient ways.
