Civil Engineer- Manchester- Flexible on location for our North West & Yorkshire offices.  

We are looking for a civil engineer to join a team of about 100 engineers, scientists and technicians who work with others throughout the northwest of England and Yorkshire.  They will be based in our Manchester office (but Liverpool, Sheffield, or Leeds is a possibility either permanently or part-time).

We are looking to increase our very busy team with a keen engineer with demonstrable professional experience following graduation, or an individual who has followed a degree apprenticeship and graduated.  The individual will either be working towards a professional qualification or be already professionally qualified, with a recognised professional body.

Our current projects are varied, exciting and often high profile including the fields of flood risk and river engineering, transportation (rail and road), energy, utility provision and site development.  We work across all phases of projects from advisory, concept, through to detailed design and construction supervision.  We deliver projects for a whole host of clients and organisations including government agencies (both national and local), local authorities, private developers, contractors, and utility companies.  We collaborate on projects across the north of England, the UK and overseas as part of a wide and diverse global organisation and are therefore able to bring expertise in from far and wide as well as providing support to others around the world.

Ideally, you will have experience in general civil engineering design, delivering water,  utilities or transport-related projects. You will be analytical, creative and conceptual thinking and evaluation of options to make decisions.

Duties will include, but will not be restricted to;

  • Use of at least one CAD package (AutoCAD or Microstation CAD packages or similar) for design and knowledge of design software packages suitable to your technical discipline (MicroDrainage, Civils 3d etc), and spreadsheets.
  • Checking the quality and accuracy of own and others’ work.
  • Collaborative approaches to finding solutions
  • Responsible for defined parts of design projects and individual projects.
  • Working with Clients and Customers and colleagues to generate mutual agreeable outcomes.
  • Responsible for organising events, activities, processes, and/or small internal business projects.

Developing interest

  • Looks to provide a design solution which aims to improve the sustainability and social value
  • Management of small teams and/or projects, including the commercial aspects of these elements/projects
  • Digital Design processes
  • Interest in GIS, BIM, Digital automation and/or conducting design in a 3D or digital environments.
  • Supervision of others carrying out civil engineering design.  You will have the opportunity to take more responsibility and leadership of the projects on which you work, and to increase your technical specialist skills.
  • Mentoring the development of younger engineers within the team.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Suitable Civil Engineering Degree (Class 2.1 or above) in line with a technical specialism
  • Working towards a recognised professional qualification (or already hold one)
  • Demonstrable experience within the field of civil engineering
