About this career opportunity...

We have an opportunity for a Civil Engineer to become a permanent member of our creative and friendly Property, Science, Industry and Technology team in South Africa. You will be a key part of our wider South African multidisciplinary, collaborative team. Our projects are local and global and will allow you to work and succeed in an international, multi-cultural business environment.

The role involves inter-office working, skills development and knowledge transfer between Arup colleagues across the continent and region. You will play a part in the ever-increasing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design.

You will work as part of project teams to deliver effective and professional services to our clients. Due to our design teams' multi-disciplinary nature, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Architects, Contractors, Structural Engineers, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Surveyors and Project Managers.

The candidate should also have skills in working within a multidisciplinary engineering team and have an appreciation for the role and interactions of all engineering services required to execute a project.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for individuals with the following skills.

  • Be degree qualified and committed to your own professional development, following a route to professional registration with ECSA or equivalent.
  • Relevant industry knowledge
  • Have a strong understanding of engineering principles, and the appropriate use of technical analysis and design software packages.
  • Have design skills in site development, including some or all of utility and drainage design, road pavement design and layout, earthworks design, and site procurement issues.
  • Be up to date with the latest analysis and design software, i.e. AutoCAD, Civil3D and BIM.
