The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join Arup’s Water team in Madrid and contribute to a wide range of national and international water projects.
Our team works across the entire water cycle, supporting clients including utilities, local and regional governments, industrial and domestic water users, developers, contractors and other partners. We help deliver projects related to water supply, drainage, flood protection, natural catchments and key water infrastructure, considering the long-term economic, environmental and social dimensions of our work.
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with colleagues in Spain and across Arup’s global network. The role is well suited to an early-career Civil Engineer who is keen to develop strong technical skills, gain exposure to different project stages, and contribute to projects with a positive social and environmental impact.
We are looking for a proactive and motivated Civil Engineer to join our Water team in Madrid. The successful candidate will have an interest in water infrastructure and a desire to develop their technical capability through hands-on project work, collaboration and mentoring.
As a Civil Engineer in the Water team at Arup, you will:
· Support the design of water infrastructure, including water supply networks, drainage systems, reservoirs and flood protection solutions.
· Contribute to different project stages, from bids and feasibility studies through to concept, schematic and detailed design.
· Prepare calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications and other design deliverables.
· Assist with hydraulic, hydrological and civil engineering assessments, depending on project needs.
· Coordinate with engineers and specialists from other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.
· Participate in meetings with colleagues, clients and project stakeholders.
· Develop your technical skills through project delivery, mentoring and collaboration with local and international teams.
Does this role inspire you?
We are looking for someone proactive and dynamic. Ideally, you’ll bring:
· A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
· Around 1 to 3 years of experience in civil engineering design, preferably related to water infrastructure, drainage, utilities, hydraulic structures or flood risk management.
· Knowledge and experience of using design tools, which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, as well as hydraulic modelling software; Infoworks, InfoDrainage, Epanet, SewerGEMS, WaterCAD.
· High level of spoken and written English and Spanish
· Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
· A proactive attitude, curiosity, attention to detail and motivation to deliver high-quality work.
· An interest in developing technical expertise in the water sector and in contributing to projects with positive outcomes for communities and the environment.

· Full-time position based in Madrid.
