The Opportunity
We are looking for a Civil Designer to be a member of multi-disciplinary project team to deliver high quality civil engineering services designs. Supervising junior engineers and BIM technicians. Manage timely delivery of designs to agreed time and cost constraints. Take a prominent role in respect of the civil/structural elements of such projects in the Inception, Feasibility Studies, detailed Engineering, detail Project Report, tender Preparation of Works, hydraulic Modelling, condition reports, proposals, etc. Lead and participate in Project Co-ordination and Planning, Project Management, Business Development, Pre and Post Tendering Works. Working with a high degree of autonomy, reporting to the Project Manager or Team Leader in respect of project deliverables and performance, under the technical management / supervision of the Technical Lead/Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Development of innovative designs and presentation of initial concepts in sketch form with study of input data from gathered information and laying out of civil engineering scheme.
- Preparation of drawings & schedules using Indian and International codes (wherever required). And working closely with technicians to produce drawings.
- Preparation of Design Basis Report, Hydraulic Models by using SewerCAD, StormCAD, CivilStorm/ SewerGEMS, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS or similar tools.
- Through understanding of NBC and other statutory requirements for utilities in a project.
- Preparation & Review of Cost Estimates / BoQs, Preparation & Review of Technical Specifications.
- Internal Support till submission of Bid from various partners in multi-disciplinary project team and collect information from all available sources to prepare accurate and complete designs and drawings.
- Keeping senior staff informed of important and relevant design decisions to make sure that the objectives of the company and the client are achieved. Representing Arup at meetings with the client, other professionals, and suppliers. And Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
- Site checking and inspection as per the design drawings and calculation. Respond to site queries / RFI by the site team / contractor. Periodic site-visits during construction for inspection/monitoring.
- Relocate to Project Site (primarily within India) on short-term assignments to perform as Resident Design Engineer to ensure Arup Design is getting executed as per the design intent.
- Deal with the day to day queries from the Client / Site Team, ensuring that relevant information is available on time for construction activity. Collaborate with clients, other professionals, and local authorities.
- Prepare feasibility study reports to meet brief requirements in the agreed format and review with the Team Leader. Embed sustainability/net zero carbon in all project work.
- Work with Arup team to assemble a design specification compliant with the employers’ requirements, agree its format and content, and monitor and review its preparation ensuring delivery by the due date.
- Carry out detailed design to Regulations standard ensuring safety, sustainability, and quality; and technical review and sign off by the Team Leader / Technical Leader, including complex calculations and co-ordination issues.
- Provide documentary information to assist in the preparation of tender documents, ensuring that information for tender preparation is completed in requisite detail and to deadlines, and keep the Team informed regarding design progress through explanation of design decisions.
- Follow in full the document control and QA processes relevant to project work, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and correspondence are issued, and filed in an appropriate manner, coach junior staff in their usage.
- Develop positive professional relationship with the entire Team, communicating openly about project progress. Participate in team meetings, disseminate information within the team, and communicate with other teams in Arup. Coordinate designs with other specialists and professionals.
- Manage delegated tasks to ensure that deadlines are met and flag resourcing concerns to team leader.
Is this role right for you?
We are seeking a candidate who has:
- A proven experience in delivering high quality civil engineering solutions with significant experience in a similar role or demonstration of a good track record; with sound knowledge of Indian Standards. Experience of masterplan engineering, the formulation of options and holistic analysis to provide recommended solutions to clients.
- A relevant degree and be heading for professionally qualification (with ICE or IStructE, UK as an added advantage) (Graduate in Civil Engineering - preferably with Post-Graduate in Environment/Infrastructure Engineering and with minimum 5 years of relevant experience).
- Experience in working in a civil engineering design environment using CAD (Civil 3D or Bentley SewerCAD, StormCAD, CivilStorm, SewerGEMS, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, Navisworks or similar) and other digital tools; design and technical consultation in areas such as roads and earthworks, pavements, stormwater including WSUD, flood risk management and utilities. Familiar with Document management systems like SharePoint, Bentley ProjectWise and BIM360
- Knowledge of computational programming in Excel, VBA will be preferred with basic knowledge of Rhino and GH. Strong desire to develop new designs / technology and able to demonstrate strong design ability and engineering skills and knowledge.
- A sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point is essential.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential. (Both written and verbal); must be fluent in English with an excellent understanding of technical terminology.
- Site inspection knowledge and experience will be an added advantage.
