Arup have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Civil Engineering Drafter / Technician to join our NSW & ACT Infrastructure Group in Sydney. This role covers a broad range of skills relating to civil drafting and design and your contribution will aim to enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise in this area. Profile for success:

  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Drafting or similar area;
  • Relevant industry experience in Engineering/Drafting preferably within a consulting business environment, supported by proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and guidelines within Arup’s related procedures including OH&S 
  • Proven relevant industry experience in detailed drafting within a civil infrastructure design environment 
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies (including Chartered Status from the Institution of Engineers Australia) would be advantageous.
  • You will have a developing skill or a desire to develop skills in undertaking 3D design modelling, in a package such as Civil3D/12D/Revit. 

About the role

Joining the Civil team, reporting to the NSW & ACT Infrastructure Group Leader and Civil Team Leader you will enhance the teams’ portfolio of skills and undertake drafting, design and consulting services for a variety of innovative civil infrastructure design projects. Your remit will encompass: 

  • You will provide support for the Civil team (and other teams as required), including taking responsibility for production of all drawing and design information using the latest version of AutoCAD and/or Microstation software.
  • You will be required to participate and contribute as a member of the CSN (CAD Skills Network), providing support and feedback to the Arup Australasia CAD users through CSN (CSN is responsible for creation of the national CAD standards and upgrades to in-house CAD ‘add-on’ software. This role also involves liaising between CAD users in the Sydney office and throughout Arup Australasia).
  • Drawing on your prior skills and experience and willingness to maintain familiarity with new design software and practices, you will provide new and innovative IT solutions to problems, ensuring the group keeps pace with new advancements in technology in the industry.
  • You will be able to work both independently and within project teams on set tasks and will be responsible for your own time management and for ensuring the quality and accuracy of your work through self-checking processes.
  • Willing to share your expertise, ideas and knowledge you will contribute to the building of drafting best practice and capability within the team and in wider multi-disciplinary groups. 
  • You will represent your team or area at internal meetings and you may be responsible for organising events, activities or small internal business projects;
  • You will assist others with their work and ensure that deadlines are met.
