The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a business change lead to join our Delivery team within the Project and Programme Management practice within Digital Technology. The Delivery team manages portfolios and change related projects and programmes across Arup globally to achieve the desired business outcomes of the firm and help make Arup’s Strategy and digital vision a reality.

The business change lead is accountable for implementing and leading change management practices and processes across projects and programmes across the Delivery portfolio and in accordance with the delivery methodology.

You will report into the head of delivery and help ensure change related aspects of delivery are successfully embedded across the company. This will include areas relating to impact assessments, working with or establishing change networks, benefits management, communications, developing process and educating the Delivery team in the discipline of change management.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Conducting business impact assessments to determine how the level of change being introduced will affect the organisation
  • Developing global strategies and initiatives for managing change, driving adoption and realising benefits
  • Establishing a global change capability and core competence within Digital Technology
  • Consulting and coaching project team members on impacts of change and change strategies
  • Establishing mechanisms, tools and KPIs for defining, tracking and measuring benefits to be delivered from projects
  • Co-ordinating delivery of the business change in line with the programme or project objectives by managing the transition of change, working across Arup to embed changes
  • Creating business readiness plans, identifying what changes in processes, procedures and practices are needed to achieve the change and deliver the planned benefits, outcomes, target operating model and future state into the ‘business as usual’ environment
  • Implementing a programme engagement strategy, assisting the user community in provision of transition support and change planning, and liaising with the project team
  • Collaborating with communication and engagement teams across Arup to implement the programme’s communication strategy and contribute to the success of the programme
  • Assessing the readiness levels of business users with regard to upcoming changes; identifies readiness gaps and creates and implements action plans to close the gaps prior to go-live.
  • Ensuring that programme teams integrate change management practices and metrics into programme planning
  • Producing project plans and other project management artefacts to attain a common understanding between all project stakeholders

Requirements and skills

Essential knowledge and skills: 

  • Experience of delivering large scale programmes of change in global organisations
  • Demonstrable knowledge of change management theory and practice, with evidence of having applied it successfully in complex organisations
  • Experience of working across a range of projects and issues, using research and best practice, to inform plans
  • Highly organised, with good strategic communications planning skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, colleagues and Members and their staff and to maintain a good understanding of audience needs and issues
  • Significant experience of delivering technology projects with a proven delivery track record - having achieved tangible results, created value and delivered business outcomes
  • Strong risk assessment, problem resolution, negotiation, and influencing skills 
  • Possess line management skills and have established global teams
  • Strong business acumen, commercial mindset and financial literacy
  • High level of competence in effective individual and team use of a range of project management and digital collaboration tools such as Microsoft Project, the MS Office 365 suite etc. 

Desirable knowledge and skills: 

  • Experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector
  • Experience of working in a matrix environment
  • Experience of working on projects or programmes adopting Agile methods and practices
  • Experience of working in a communications role to with senior management; and working across a range of projects and issues, using research and best practice, to inform communications plans

  • Strong planning and teambuilding and management skills with the ability to motivate, lead and develop a large diverse team ensuring resources are organised appropriately and effectively

Qualifications

Any of the following are desirable:

  • Educated to degree level in a technology, business or engineering discipline 
  • Professional project or programme management accreditation 
  • Holding relevant change management practitioner status such as Prosci
