The Opportunity:

Infrastructure is ageing globally, with a growing pipeline of renewals and bridge upgrade projects. This role sits at the heart of a new Bangalore-based team that will work in close partnership with UK colleagues to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions and help Arup become a market leader in rail renewals.You will deliver technical design and assessment work for railway bridges and civil structures, supporting a growing Bangalore team that works closely with UK colleagues on renewals and ageing assets projects. This role is ideal for an engineer who combines strong fundamentals in bridge engineering with an interest in the challenge of working on existing assets.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Undertake structural analysis and design for railway bridges and civil structures, including new interventions, modifications, strengthening and renewals.

• Experience designing bridges and civil structures through optioneering, feasibility, selection of options, preliminary design, outline design, detailed design, delivering construction information and supporting clients and contractors through the construction phase of a project.  

• Carry out assessments of existing assets, interpret inspection information and support the development of practical remediation or renewal options.

• Prepare technical calculations, technical reports, specifications, sketches, drawings and digital deliverables in collaboration with engineers and technicians.

• Support coordination with other disciplines including track, stations, telecoms, power and wider rail systems teams to deliver integrated solutions.

• Able to work under limited supervision and use initiative and independent judgement.  

• Contribute to design reviews, checking processes and quality assurance activities to maintain high technical standards.

• Deliver allocated work packages to programme and budget, proactively managing interfaces, risks and information needs.

• Support site-related queries, construction-stage technical input and responses to design issues as they arise.

• Contribute ideas that improve efficiency, digital delivery and repeatability across bridge renewals and ageing assets work.

If this role right for you? 

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and progression toward membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE or IStructE.

• Minimum of 8 years post-graduate experience in the design, assessment or construction of bridges and civil structures.

• Good appreciation of structural behavior and confidence developing technical solutions for both new and existing assets.

• Experience with structural analysis software such as MIDAS, GSA, Strand7, SAP2000, LEAP or similar.

• Experience using Projectwise and Bentley Microstation software.

• Ability to produce clear technical reports and robust design calculations.

• Knowledge of Eurocodes and, ideally, familiarity with standards applied by Network Rail and/or other rail clients.

• Strong collaborative skills and experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

• A proactive approach to learning, quality and client service.
