The Bridge, Civil Structural and Offshore Structures (BCOS) team undertakes exciting and challenging engineering mandates for major bridge and transit projects throughout Canada! Our projects include being the Technical Advisor role to Metrolinx for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension and for the GO Rail Expansion - On Corridor Works (OnCorr), the design of the Keating Channel footbridge for Waterfront Toronto, the Technical Advisor role to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) for the replacement of the iconic Alexandra Bridge in Ottawa and the Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) for the replacement of the 2km Ile d'Orléans Bridge with a 430m cable stay span near Quebec City.
The BCOS Engineer will work from our Toronto office, in a hybrid working environment. They will contribute to all project phases, including planning, design, procurement, and construction, for transportation structures such as railway, highway, and pedestrian bridges.

- Assist in the concept, preliminary, and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures.
- Perform calculations and prepare design documentation under the guidance of senior engineers; review the work of EITs as appropriate.
- Support quality control activities by participating in independent reviews and checks of structural designs.
- Collaborate with CAD and BIM staff to support drawing production and provide necessary design information.
- Contribute to the preparation of construction specifications and tender documentation as part of a project team.
- Assist in managing smaller project tasks or work packages to help ensure delivery on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Participate in meetings with clients to present work, discuss design issues, and support project coordination efforts under the direction of senior staff.
- Support the proposal preparation process for bridge design projects as required.
Is this role right for you?
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (P. Eng.).
- 5 years or more of experience with prior work experience in infrastructure/bridge projects, preferably in Ontario.
- Thorough understanding and design experience using applicable codes and standards, notably CSA S6, AREMA and Metrolinx Guidelines.
- Experience with the analysis and design of new bridges and civil structures, and rehabilitation of existing structures.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering reports, condition assessment reports, design reports, presentations, technical proposals and specifications.
- Ability to communicate successfully (verbally, written, and in executive presentations) with internal and external clients and collaborators, and build well-developed teams and positive relationships.
- Proficiency with structural design and analysis software with bridge engineering applications; working experience with MIDAS or other similar software.
- Experience in parametric modelling using Rhino and Grasshopper would be an asset.

Toronto Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $90,000 to $105,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note, hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
