Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

Our Bridge and Civil Structures team, based in central Birmingham, is a large and diverse group of engineers and technicians working across bridges, civil structures and tunnels within multidisciplinary project teams. Operating in a fully digital environment, we support projects at all stages of the lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, delivery and the management of existing assets.

We are looking for a Bridge & Civil Structures Engineer to make a strong technical contribution to our world‑class projects. In this role, you will support the design of bridges, tunnels and heavy civil engineering structures, including complex underground infrastructure, and help develop sustainable solutions for existing highway and rail assets requiring assessment, strengthening or modification.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines, coordinate design inputs, and communicate solutions using 3D models and other digital tools. This is an opportunity to grow your technical capability, develop your digital skills and take increasing responsibility within a supportive, innovative and collaborative team environment.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are keen to hear from engineers who are motivated by technical challenge, collaboration and continuous learning. You are likely to bring:

·       A master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent), with progress towards Chartered Status.

·       Experience contributing to the design or construction of bridges and/or civil structures

·       Familiarity with structural analysis and design tools such as MIDAS, SOFiSTiK, GSA, Strand7 or SAP2000

·       Experience working with BIM processes and digital model delivery

·       A working knowledge of Eurocodes as applied by organisations such as National Highways and/or Network Rail

·       Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and contribute to high‑quality reports

You may also bring, or be keen to develop, digital skills such as Python scripting, data management or visualisation, alongside a curiosity for innovation and a desire to apply existing knowledge in new areas. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and delivering work to programme and budget will be valued.
