The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Associate to join our growing water business. You will be part of a diverse collaborative team responsible for the successful delivery of our project and programme management commissions throughout the infrastructure lifecycle for major clients including Water Companies, Ofwat, Defra, Environment Agency and others. In addition to the wide range of technical specialists and designers, PPM works closely with other Arup client advisory teams across the UK providing a range of services including strategy & insight, finance & economics, and assets & operations. There is also the potential to lead and support projects in other infrastructure sectors such as energy, rail and aviation.

The role of an Associate will be to drive, challenge and successfully deliver complex strategic and operational water projects using best practice PPM knowledge and advisory skills. Your typical activities will include: Generating new work and delivering against business plans; Acting as Bid Manager and contributing to bids of varying sizes and complexities; Leading staff recruitment and development. Contributing to networks and teams outside your line of command; Being the day-to-day project manager on complex or high-risk infrastructure projects, programmes, and Frameworks; Leading the development of new service offerings; Working as part of a team to deliver commissions to a high standard of quality, and client satisfaction; Ensuring commissions are delivered to a high standard of quality, and client satisfaction; Identifying and mitigating reputational and commercial risks to Arup.

Is this role right for you?
 
We are looking for an Associate with excellent technical knowledge and experience to join us and become an integral part of our London based team. You will bring a desire to deliver high quality and innovative solutions that deliver successful outcomes for our clients.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in working in the water sector and transferable or actual water sector work experience.

You will be able to demonstrate your understanding, skill, and experience in the following areas: 

  • Knowledge and experience of project and / or programme management on large projects / programmes / frameworks
  • A broad base of engineering competence, with curiosity and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of the regulatory landscape of the UK water sector, i.e., Ofwat / RAPID
  • Manages complex high risk projects and programmes, with experience leading project teams of 6 or more
  • Able to assess real world project scenarios in line with your experience and plan a course of action that will deliver the required project outcomes.
  • Agreeing business plans and team targets and being responsible for achieving plans and targets set for the team
  • Leading staff recruitment and development. Contributing to networks and teams outside your line of command.

The successful candidate will hold a qualification in a relevant engineering or science based subject or evidence of sufficient technical knowledge of the water industry gained through experience.  Ideally a Chartered professional in relevant profession/ Professional qualifications in Project and Programme Management e.g., AMP PPQ, ChPP. 

You will also be able to demonstrate one or more of the following; Leading a programme to deliver digitally enabled change; Directing the delivery or development of advisory services for clients; Framework management experience; Experience in managing a team of water specialist to deliver work across the water sector AMP Cycle opportunities.
