Within this, the Environment team coordinate and manage design input and Impact Assessments, working with a variety of technical disciplines on a wide range of different types of development.

The team have expertise in environmental impact assessment (EIA), strategic environmental assessment (SEA), health impact assessment (HIA), and integrated impact assessment (IIA) We have a track record of delivering assessments for a range of development types, including high profile, major infrastructure and development projects

The Opportunity

Our Historic Environment team are looking for a dynamic project Associate in the form of an archaeological specialist. This person would be accountable for the development of the Historic Environment business in our London and Southeast region, based in London, but would work throughout the UK. The established Historic Environment team sits within our Climate and Sustainability Services Portfolio and comprises consultants in London and the Midlands. This position would involve the direction of the London team specifically although the teams work across the UK and closely with the Midlands team. Arup’s Historic Environment teams has contributed to a number of high-profile projects.

Working in the Climate and Sustainability Services Portfolio as an Associate Archaeologist you will have the ability to work on large and complex projects and manage Client contacts, promoting the work of other teams within Arup. You will have extensive knowledge in the cultural heritage industry, particularly directing on cultural heritage aspects of EIA and DCO work for large infrastructure projects. Your role covers management of change within the historic environment, combining technical expertise and archaeological knowledge.  Your role will be focused on managing the London team of archaeologists and built heritage specialists and delivering archaeological inputs for internal and external clients within a wide range of project sectors including planning, structural engineering, geotechnics, energy performance, property, transport and cities. The role will involve management of a small team, line management and input into expanding our historic environment strategy, promoting our clients to achieve their aims through your consultancy skills.

Is this role right for you?

We are interested in the following skills:

  • A good first degree in History, Archaeology, Landscapes or related discipline; and
  • Relevant Master's degree or higher qualification in Archaeology or related subject.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists. Full member of CIfA;
  • Established knowledge of delivering public or private heritage focused projects in the UK.
  • Demonstrable Knowledge of working with the UK planning process (including EIA and DCO) and awareness of the relevant environmental / heritage legislation and guidance.
