Advisory Services Consultant- London/ Solihull

We are seeking a Consultant to join our Midlands-based team - based at the Midlands Campus in Solihull - to work on a range of advisory projects in highways and rail, and assist in developing services in water and energy. The role will be suited to an individual with a keen interest and track record in the delivery of ambitious solutions and a background in infrastructure asset engineering.

 

This role is predominately a strategic planning consultant role where digital skills would also be vital. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, technically strong individual. You will support delivery of a pipeline of opportunities in key target clients including Highways England with involvement in national and potentially international commissions. The role will also significantly contribute to collaboration with the wider Advisory services across Arup and provide an opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of project across infrastructure clients.


The Role


This is a key role in the Midlands Infrastructure business supporting the growing Advisory Services stream of our business plan. Ideally having a background in civil or similar asset engineering and experience in applying your knowledge in an advisory context.

Working alongside and supporting our existing team of advisory and technical consultants – to strengthen our combined service offer to our clients. Reporting to the Midlands Advisory Lead, the key requirements of the role are:

  • Supporting the development of our Midlands Advisory team, helping them to build and support strong client relationships and command the confidence of others, internally and externally
  • Provide up-to-date knowledge of innovative thinking in the areas of strategic planning, asset information & digital innovation, regulation and resilience
  • Build relationships with Arup staff within technical sectors i.e. Highways, Rail, Water and Energy
  • Collaborate with clients on a wide range of technical issues, at all levels within the organisations

You will work in multi-disciplinary teams, typically comprising a mix of other competences. Team size varies depending on the scope and scale of our client’s briefs. It may be necessary to operate under a client secondment arrangement.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Have an understanding of the issues infrastructure owners/operators in the UK are facing
  • Awareness of the approach to forming and providing advice to clients; and interest in areas such as long-term investment planning, decision support, information management, risk and resilience, financial modelling, statistical analysis, and regulatory monitoring and reporting.
  • Demonstrable track record in delivering accurate, good quality technical advice in an engaging and consultative manner.
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions and exhibit innovative thinking, whit good knowledge and experience of project management.
  • Developing analytical skills, including an ability to analyse and draw insight from business data.
  • Ability to write succinct and accurate reports
  • Demonstrates leadership, collaboration, hands-on approach, and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, matrixed company

Qualifications

  • You will have an appropriate university degree or equivalent qualification
  • Be working towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution
