The Opportunity
We’re looking for a passionate and technically excellent Associate Active Travel Lead to join our growing team and lead the charge in transforming how people move through and experience towns and cities across the North West and Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in both delivering high-profile active travel and placemaking projects and leading business growth across a dynamic region with forward-thinking local and combined authorities.
We develop active travel policies and strategies, design cycle and walking infrastructure, analyse accessibility and inclusivity, and advise on behavioural change, bike sharing and wayfinding.
Is this role for you?
We are seeking a diverse and experienced individual who can demonstrate transport planning, active travel, behaviour change and project management capabilities.
You will lead and coordinate technical delivery of active travel and placemaking projects, bringing together Arup’s multi-disciplinary expertise to deliver innovative, inclusive and sustainable solutions. Your role will also focus on client engagement and work winning – unlocking opportunities, shaping bids, and forging trusted relationships with clients across Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, and beyond.
This is an exiting opportunity to join a high-performing, values-led team with a strong track record and pipeline, and to help define what future mobility, high streets, and healthy neighbourhoods look like in some of the UK’s most ambitious city regions.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who have a strong interest in the Planning, Design and Consultation of active travel schemes and behaviour change programmes and who can demonstrate strong and trusted relationships with key stakeholders and work winning success in this field.
The successful candidate should be able to work under clear instruction and independently, with a track record of winning, managing and delivering quality outputs aligned with project deadlines. In particular, the candidate should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the local markets within Greater Manchester, West and South Yorkshire as well as Merseyside / Cheshire.
The successful candidate will become an integral part of an existing strong Cities, Planning & Design team across the North (England, Scotland and Northern Ireland).
Requirements
· Support senior management in delivering key projects and manage individual projects as Project Manager.
· Assist in and lead bids / submissions and work winning activities around all aspects of active travel / behavior change themes.
· Provide technical and professional leadership / support, line management and mentoring of junior members of staff.
· Support the development and continued growth of the wider Cities, Planning & Design group in the North geography.
· Keep up-to-date with market developments, anticipate market changes, and assess opportunities for the expansion of services.
· Degree qualification and chartered: in relevant institution CIHT/ TPP/ ICE or similar.
